Kadomatsu (門松) – Japanese New Year Bamboo & Pine Decoration
Kadomatsu is a traditional Japanese decoration displayed during the New Year season. Placed at the entrance of homes and businesses, it serves as a welcoming guide for ancestral spirits and Shinto deities, inviting prosperity, protection, and harmony for the coming year.
Made with bamboo (symbolizing strength and growth), pine (longevity and stability), and sometimes plum or ume sprigs (resilience and hope), each arrangement carries deep cultural significance and blessings for the New Year.
📅 Please place your order before December 15.
Kadomatsu is traditionally displayed from December 28 through January 7.
Following Japanese customs, kadomatsu is treated as a temporary home (shintai) for the toshigami—the New Year deity who is believed to bring abundant harvests and blessings. After the New Year period, the decoration is typically burned to respectfully release the deity.
✨ Decoration Only:
Kadomatsu does not require watering. Simply display it as is throughout the festive season.
