How to take care of Kokedama (with preserved moss)
**How to Care for Your Preserved Moss Kokedama**
First, it’s important to know if your kokedama is made with preserved moss or live moss. At Kodama Forest, we typically use preserved moss unless otherwise requested. Preserved moss does not need direct watering—if you water it directly, the moss may quickly fade to a brownish color.
To water your kokedama effectively, add water to the bottom part of the moss ball (about 1 inch) using approximately 1 cup of water. This method ensures that the plant inside gets the moisture it needs. You can also mist the leaves regularly to increase humidity, which is great for the plant's health.
Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light. How often you need to water your kokedama depends on the type of plant and your environment. Be sure to understand the needs of the specific plant you’re growing, as well as the conditions in your home. A good way to check if it needs watering is by feeling the bottom of the moss ball. If it feels dry or the ball feels lighter than usual, it’s time to water it. For larger kokedamas, you can increase the amount of water as needed.
