Kokedama is more than just a way to display plants—it's an art form that balances beauty, harmony, and plant growth compatibility. Recently, I’ve been working on a new kokedama design, combining Peperomia, Syngonium, Ivy, and Curly Willow. This combination not only creates a stunning visual contrast of green shades but also ensures the plants can thrive together in a shared moss ball.
Why This Combination?
1️⃣ Peperomia – Compact, easy to care for, and comes in various leaf textures and colors, adding richness to the design.
2️⃣ Syngonium – A vining plant with arrow-shaped leaves, bringing graceful movement and a soft contrast to Peperomia.
3️⃣ Ivy – A trailing plant that grows beautifully, cascading down the kokedama for a natural, flowing look.
4️⃣ Curly Willow – Adds an airy, sculptural touch, creating a sense of movement and elegance.
Balancing Growth and Aesthetics
When designing a mixed-plant kokedama, I consider:
✅ Growth habits – Ensuring plants with similar water and light needs are paired together.
✅ Leaf textures & colors – Mixing different shades of green enhances visual appeal.
✅ Structural balance – Using curly willow as a vertical element brings depth and flow.
Continuing to Innovate
Creating new kokedama designs is an exciting journey! Each combination tells a different story and brings a unique aesthetic to any space. I love experimenting with new plant pairings and exploring how they grow together.
